MediaHub 2.0.0-RC1 – A Completely Redesigned Android TV Experience
I’ve now released MediaHub 2.0.0-RC1 for Android TV, and this is the biggest update to MediaHub so far.
The entire app has received a major UI redesign, alongside new discovery, Live TV and playback features. The scale of the changes felt worthy of moving straight to 2.0.
This release is 2.0.0-RC1 / build 112.
MediaHub now has a darker charcoal and glass design throughout, with transparent surfaces, cinematic artwork and clearer controls. Home, browsing, content details, player overlays, the Guide, accounts and settings have all received attention.
The aim has been to make MediaHub feel like a polished app designed specifically for the television, with a consistent experience across IPTV, Jellyfin, Emby and Plex.
The new Home screen is a particularly big change:
Live TV can show a muted, full-screen preview of your last-watched channel behind the interface. Movies and Series use high-resolution artwork, with backgrounds reflecting what you’re currently watching or selecting a fresh featured title. Media Server backgrounds draw from your connected library. Cached artwork and fading transitions help make moving between sections feel more fluid. Movie and Series details have also been refined, with better artwork blending, more balanced layouts and clearer playback controls.
There has been a wider focus pass across the app too. Buttons have clearer focused and unfocused states, returning from another screen better preserves your position, and both Movie and Series player overlays have been restyled.
Alongside the redesign, there are several new features:
Personalised Discovery – For You recommendations draw on your viewing activity to help surface something worth watching. Tonight – Choose your available time and mood to find a suitable film or first episode, using available runtime information. Watchlist and Source Selection – Save content for later, with matching across supported sources helping you choose where to watch. Richer TV Guide – Expanded programme details and reminders, plus provider-supported catch-up. Catch-up is also accessible through the channel press-and-hold menu in Default View. Record Now – Record supported Live TV streams to device storage or a folder available through Android, with a recordings library for playback. Seek Previews – Supported Jellyfin, Emby and Plex artwork can provide preview images when seeking through content. Catch-up depends on your provider and its archive availability. Recording currently supports compatible direct MPEG-TS streams, and watching another channel while recording can require an additional provider connection. Seek previews depend on artwork supplied by the media server.
Existing features remain, including multi-provider IPTV, Jellyfin, Emby, Plex, profiles, favourites, MultiView and the wider playback options.
MediaHub Management has also moved to 2.0.0-RC1, with the matching glass design across setup, sign-in and administration, plus the updated build 112 Android engine.
Updated packages cover Docker, Docker/Plesk installation and native Ubuntu 24.04. Existing installations can retain their configuration, database, branding and Android signing identity. Panel administrators should generate new customer APKs after upgrading to distribute the new Android interface and features.
This is still a release candidate, and I’d particularly appreciate testing around:
NVIDIA Shield and Google TV performance D-pad navigation and returning to previous screens Home backgrounds and Live TV preview Guide reminders, catch-up and recording Discovery, watchlists and continue watching Jellyfin, Emby and Plex playback Please don’t post IPTV credentials, provider URLs or Media Server tokens publicly.
