MediaHub for VegaOS Submitted to the Amazon Appstore
A major milestone for MediaHub: the VegaOS version has now officially been submitted to the Amazon Appstore and is awaiting Amazon’s review.
This is the first MediaHub release built specifically for Amazon’s newer VegaOS Fire TV platform.
Bringing MediaHub to VegaOS required significantly more than simply taking the existing Android application and rebuilding it. VegaOS is a completely different platform, so the MediaHub interface, account system, Xtream Codes integration, EPG functionality and playback experience have all had to be recreated specifically for Amazon’s new environment.
Throughout development, the goal has been to keep the VegaOS version feeling as close as possible to the existing Android TV app rather than creating a separate or cut-down MediaHub experience.
The familiar Home screen, IPTV sections, account management and TV-first navigation have therefore remained the reference throughout the project.
Tested on Real VegaOS Hardware
Development began using Amazon’s VegaOS development tools and virtual devices, but the final stages have also been tested on physical VegaOS Fire TV hardware.
MediaHub has additionally gone through Amazon Live App Testing, allowing the application to be installed using Amazon’s own distribution system before the production submission.
That process helped confirm that the store-installed application behaves correctly outside the normal developer deployment environment.
The production build has now completed that testing process and has been submitted to Amazon for formal Appstore review.
What Happens Next?
At the moment there is nothing further to install or download publicly while Amazon carries out its review.
Assuming MediaHub passes certification, it should then become available directly through the Amazon Appstore on supported VegaOS Fire TV devices.
That will mean users on Amazon’s newer Vega platform will be able to install MediaHub through the normal store experience rather than relying on development tools or manual installation.
I’ll post another update as soon as Amazon completes the review and the store listing becomes available.
Android Development Is Continuing
The VegaOS submission does not mean development of the Android version is slowing down.
Android remains the main MediaHub platform and the source of truth for the wider project. New features and interface improvements will continue to be developed there, with appropriate functionality then brought across to the other MediaHub platforms.
In fact, MediaHub 0.5.5-beta for Android TV is being released alongside this update, bringing multiple IPTV accounts, improved Media Server browsing, easier category management and another round of Fire TV stability improvements.
The long-term aim remains the same: a consistent MediaHub experience across the devices people actually use, while keeping the application clean, TV-focused and independent of any particular IPTV or Media Server provider.
Getting the VegaOS build submitted to Amazon is a big step towards that.
